Best Family Beaches

Cable Beach

For families with young kids, Cable Beach on New Providence Island in Nassau is a top pick. Known for its calm, clear waters, the little ones will love splashing about while the adults can enjoy a leisurely soak or swim. The two miles of soft white sand give everyone room to spread out.

Insider Tip: Public access can be limited as most of this beach is reserved for guests of the resorts and condos that line the beach, making it a convenient option if you are staying in one of these locations.

Pig Beach

If your family fancies turning swimming into an Instagram-adventure, Pig Beach (Big Major Cay) in the Exumas should be on your list. Visitors can paddle up to the famous swimming pigs or watch the docile piggies swim out to boats in search of a snack. Bring some fresh fruit along as the kids are sure to get a kick out of feeding them.

Insider tip: Book the earliest charter boat available as it tends to get more crowded later in the day.

Pink Sands Beach

Pink Sands Beach on Harbour Island earns its name legitimately: microscopic coral organisms called Foraminifera give the sand the rosy tint this beach is famous for.  The often-calm water and super-soft sand make it very easy to relax comfortably and take in the stunning surroundings as the kids play in the crystal water.

Insider tip: Rent a golf cart for an easy way to get around the island.

French Leave Beach

If you are in search of a more secluded beach away from crowds, look no further than French Leave Beach on Harbour Island. This quiet pink sand beach is ideal for swimming, snorkeling, or just soaking up the sun. Though a popular spot, you may not see other people for hours.

Insider tip: Bring drinks and food with you since there are no restaurants on the beach.

Top Family Activities

Aquaventure at Atlantis Paradise Island

If your family enjoys the thrill of theme parks, plan a full day to experience Aquaventure at Atlantis. Boasting the title of the largest water park in The Bahamas, you & the family can ride down towering slides, drift along the lazy river with rapids, and see the world’s largest open-air marine habitat, where rays, sharks and other marine life can be observed.

Insider tip: Arrive at opening and head to the slides right away as long lines usually form an hour or two before noon.

Dolphin and Sea Lion Encounters at Blue Lagoon Island

Your kids will thank you if you find a way to include Blue Lagoon Island, a short boat ride from Nassau, to get up close and personal with dolphins and sea lions. Swim alongside bottlenose dolphins, hug a sea lion, or do both! Make the most of your time by combining animal programs with a beach day for one amazing package.

Insider tip: Prepare for an entire day under the sun with towels, sunscreen, and a change of clothes; however, outside food and drinks are not permitted.

Snorkeling and Diving at New Providence

Now get ready for some sightseeing – under the water. The Bahamas offer several natural and man-made reefs, with some of the most well-known near New Providence. To see colorful fish and sea turtles gliding by, as well as a shipwreck, head to Rose Island Reef, take in the famous sculpture garden at Clifton Heritage National Park, or visit Nari Nari to see an aircraft that was sunk for the movie Jaws IV.

Insider tip: For those not into or not able to snorkel, there are many glass-bottom boats that tour the reefs, allowing for marine life and shipwreck viewing from above.

Interactive Exhibits at The Pirate Museum, Nassau

For a rainy-day activity (or just to get out of the sun for a while) don’t miss the Pirates of Nassau Museum. Interactive exhibits tell the captivating pirate history of the islands and are sure to keep everyone’s attention, and the younger ones will beg to get their photo taken in the wooden pillory near the entrance.
