Island Hopping in Hawaii? Find the Best Hawaii Hotels in Oahu, Maui or The Big Island
Hawaii – a popular destination among vacationers – boasts some of the most beautiful tropical landscapes in the entire world. Lush forests and gardens slope down to scenic beaches rushed by towering waves. The volcanic islands are mostly mountainous, with hiking trails that yield photo-worthy panoramas of the verdant hills and vast Pacific ocean. From some vantage points, you can see other islands in the distance and sometimes, migrating whales as they pass by.
If you are trying to decide how many islands to see on your trip, that is a decision dependent on time and money. Three to four days on each island will give you time to see the sights and get some relaxation time, too. On Oahu, you'll want to walk the beach at Waikiki, climb Diamondhead, and visit Pearl Harbor to see the USS Arizona Memorial. For a taste of island cultures from around the Pacific, take a bus tour to the Polynesian Cultural Center where you can enjoy a traditional luau, or visit a Pineapple Plantation and get a taste of real pineapple ice cream.
On the Valley Island of Maui, be sure to stroll the black-sand Oneuli Beach on the southwest coast, or travel north to the famous Ka'anapali Beach for surfing and sunbathing. Visit the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" at Haleakala National Park, where tourists like to watch the sun rise over the ocean. The largest of the islands is Hawaii, or Big Island. It's about the size of Connecticut, and has a volcanic landscape that may surprise you. Black sand beaches, Volcanoes National Park, and the giant mountains of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea are just a few of the sights here. It's not possible to drive the perimeter of the island anymore, as the lava flows have made some sections impassable. You'll find rain forests, waterfalls and the possibility of helicopter tours in the town of Hilo, on the eastern shore.
If you decide to stay a little longer, the Garden Island of Kauai, northwest of Oahu, has a lovely bike trail and inexpensive bike rentals. Of course, you'll want to visit world-famous Poipu Beach and get a glimpse of the Na'Pali Coast, preferably from a tour boat. The other, smaller islands each have their own amazing tourist spots and must-see beaches. Each island has a variety of beautiful beachfront resorts to give you the best vacation, honeymoon or Hawaiian island getaway. Find a great Hawaii hotel deal on these pages and book your exciting island-hopping trip today.
