It’s that time again! Awards season is in full swing, with arguably the biggest awards show of them all, the Academy Awards, scheduled for Saturday, February 26th. Included with this year’s nominees are a few films that have so perfectly captured the charms of their respective destinations that they inspire us, and millions of moviegoers, to travel.

Leading the pack is ‘The Descendants’ starring George Clooney, which takes place in Hawaii and features jaw dropping views of the Hawaiian islands. “I remember watching the trailer for ‘The Descendants’ and thinking, this is such a wonderful commercial for Hawaii,” Jason Clampet, senior online editor for Frommers, told FoxNews.com.

Alexander Payne, the Oscar-nominated director of ‘The Descendants,’ is well known for another inspiring destination-focused movie, 2004’s Oscar-winning ‘Sideways.’ Travelers still visit the Hitching Post II Restaurant, a key filming location, and many request to stay in the same room that the movie’s main characters did.

‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy had an enormous effect on New Zealand tourism, with some marketing professionals calling the movies a “nine-hour advertisement for New Zealand.” They even inspired “Tolkien Tourism,” with die-hard fans flocking to New Zealand to witness “Middle Earth” for themselves.
