Jacques Cartier Park: Only accessible via snowshoe or skis in the past, this is the first year that visitors will be able to drive the Valley sector road into the park, opening the park’s many scheduled winter events to a broader audience. Set just 30 minutes outside Quebec City, Jacques Cartier Park offers over 43 miles of terrain spread across various trails for snowshoe and cross country ski enthusiasts to enjoy. Additional back country trails are also available for those looking for a more challenging route.
Ice Canyoning: Daring travelers should head to Jean-Larose Falls for an exciting winter adventure. The Falls are continuously shaped by small trickles of running water that freeze in stages over the early weeks of winter. Therefore, unlike other ice canyoning locales, this descent is completely above water. Participants embark on a short 20 minute hike to reach the top of the Falls. From there, they use rappelling and ice climbing techniques to travel down the frozen waterfall of ice crystals and land on the snow-covered ground below.
Red Bull Crashed Ice: Spectators flock to witness this icy phenomenon in both Europe and North America, where it has taken place annually for over 10 years. The majority of racers are hockey players, who relish the chance to conquer the 1/3-mile long track constructed entirely out of ice and setup in the middle of the city. Speeds of up to 37 miles per hour are reached as the racers navigate a barrage of tightly woven twists and turns. Over 100,000 spectators take in the action while enjoying live music and entertainment.
